Recent Accessions (2005-2008)

In the past number of years, a large number of new records have been acquired by CCCA. This new material includes several series of local government archives transferred from Cork County Council and Cork City Council, and also from Mallow and Fermoy Town Councils. It also includes a number of important privately donated collections, for instance, personal and family papers and trade union records. The majority of the collections listed below are accessible for research.

2008 / 024  Letter from Frank Hurley (3rd West Cork Brigade, IRA), Wormwood Scrubs Prison, England to his sister Mary mahony, Australia concerning his father's death, his arrest and political events in Ireland. He resumes the letter on 8 May, writing of his participation in a hunger strike and release after 16 and a half days, following public outcry.  April - May 1920  7 pages

The volumes were professionally conserved and copied prior to deposit.
2005 / 6 Plan and description of property of the late Red Abbey  1780  Plan and description of the lands of the late dissolved Red Abbey, Cork, now part of the estate of the  Right Honorable Viscount De Vesci and Baron Longford, by John Connor, Architect and land surveyor. Contains plan and description of an area South of Parliament Bridge, Cork City laid out in 4 divisions, bounded by Connor’s Quay and Randal’s Quay (now George’s Quay) to the North and what is now Douglas Street to the South. With outline plan of Great South Chapel and elevation drawing of East Prospect of Church and Steeple of Red Abbey. (Scale 60ft to 1 inch)
