Before Your Visit

What you need to do before doing research at the Archives

  • Our collections are mainly in hard copy format and are accessed in our Research Room, by prior confirmed appointment only.
  • Firstly, do a search our online catalogue and collections pages with online descriptive lists, in order to identify collections/items relevant to your research.
  • If you are finding it difficult to identify relevant material, you may also contact Archives by email (archivist@corkcity.ie). Our Archivists can send you lists of any collections/items held that may be relevant to your research.
  • Once you have identified relevant research material, complete and return a Reader Application Form well in advance of your proposed visit, together with the list of the items that you wish to access. Written proof of researcher credentials and research purpose, such as an academic referral, may also be required for access to certain collections.
  • The Archives will then contact you to arrange a confirmed appointment(s) date(s)/time(s).
  • For your first appointment, you must bring original current photographic identification, plus official proof of address, in order to complete the Reader registration process.
  • There is no charge to register as a Reader.
  • See Location and Directions and Parking for information about using the Archives building
