Richard Henchion Cork Gravestone Inscriptions Collection (Ref. U774)

Over many decades, local Cork historian and scholar Richard Henchion visited over 620 graveyards and burial sites, both ancient and more recent, in Cork city and county and made a transcript of over 107,000 gravestone inscriptions.

Richard compiled all his transcripts into 78 hard copy manuscript transcript books and kindly donated these to the Archives in 2025 to make them available for research and public heritage use. 

The list of which graveyards are included in this collection is in a separate index book, which may be accessed online.

The index book lists only the relevant transcript book number corresponding to each graveyard. 

The transcript books themselves are in hard copy only and may be accessed in person by appointment. 

Note that some Cork gravestone inscriptions have also been published by the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society.
